Indian Stock Market Wrap: Sensex Drops 126 Points as Metal and Energy Drag Nifty to 22,600

Indian benchmark equity indices extended losses for a fourth consecutive session on Friday, October 23, 2026, pulled down by widespread liquidations across metal, energy, and cyclical counters. While defensive buying in consumer-facing and healthcare heavyweights helped benchmarks recover off sharp intraday lows, persistent elevated crude oil prices and global rate worries kept broader market sentiment subdued.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex shed 125.56 points (-0.17%) to settle at 73,123.83, recovering after dropping nearly 800 points intraday. Simultaneously, the NSE Nifty 50 dropped 87.65 points (-0.39%) to finish right at the 22,600.00 psychological support mark. Broader markets witnessed significantly deeper distribution, with the Nifty Midcap 100 falling 2.21% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 plunging 2.94%.
