Indian benchmark equity indices suffered sharp losses for a third consecutive session on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. A severe sell-off across Information Technology (IT) counters and financial heavyweights, coupled with international Brent crude surging past $100 per barrel amid escalating US-Iran conflict, drove benchmark indices to three-month lows.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex dropped 813.35 points (-1.08%) to settle at 74,764.23. Simultaneously, the NSE Nifty 50 shed 203.60 points (-0.86%) to close at 23,431.50. Broader indices also ended lower, as the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 0.51% and 0.48% respectively.
