Indian Stock Market Wrap: Sensex Drops 548 Points as FMCG and IT Stocks Drag

Indian equity benchmarks reversed Friday’s relief rally to close significantly lower on Monday, October 12, 2026. Heavy liquidations in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), PSU banking, and selective technology heavyweights dragged the indices lower, completely erasing the previous session’s gains as investors remained cautious amid elevated global crude oil prices and sustained Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) outflows.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex dropped 547.65 points (-0.76%) to settle at 71,924.68, after touching an intraday low of 71,676.10. Concurrently, the NSE Nifty 50 shed 157.10 points (-0.70%) to finish at 22,363.35. Despite headline weakness, select auto and healthcare counters bucked the trend, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 managed to outshine the main benchmarks with a 1.42% gain.
