Indian Stock Market Update: August 27 Post-Close Summary

Indian benchmark indices turned lower on Thursday, August 27, surrendering early morning gains to end at intraday lows. Intraday volatility surged due to monthly derivative expiry pressure, coupled with intense selling in banking, auto, and metal stocks.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex slumped 539.34 points (-0.70%) to settle at 76,933.59. Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 shed 116.90 points (-0.48%) to close at 24,090.85, dipping below the key 24,100 support level.

Market breadth heavily favored decliners, with 31 of the Nifty 50 constituents closing in the red. Heavy selling in private banking giant HDFC Bank and non-ferrous major Hindalco acted as the biggest drags on the frontline indices.
