Strong buying in the Bajaj twins and M&M helped the benchmark indices absorb profit-booking in IT and FMCG stocks, allowing Nifty and Sensex to wrap up July with second straight monthly gains of over 2%.
The BSE Sensex rose 166.49 points (0.21%) to close at 78,094.64, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 66.45 points (0.27%) to settle at 24,383.60. The Nifty Bank index also edged higher, gaining 117.35 points (0.21%) to end at 57,264.85.
