Stock Markets News as on 6th May, 2026

Indian stock markets ended 6 May 2026 with a strong rebound, as benchmark indices recovered sharply after early caution. The Nifty 50 closed at 24,330.95, up 298.15 points or 1.24%, while the Sensex finished at 77,958.52, up 940.73 points or 1.22%.

The rally was broad-based, with buying seen across most sectors. Auto, media, private banks, PSU banks, realty, metals, and pharma all closed higher, while only power, FMCG, and energy lagged behind. Market breadth was also positive, with roughly 2,755 shares advancing, 1,287 declining, and 161 unchanged.

A key driver for the upside was improving global sentiment after hopes of easing geopolitical tensions, which encouraged risk appetite in Indian equities. Domestic investors also appeared to rotate back into cyclicals and financials after recent weakness, helping the indices reclaim key levels.

Among individual movers, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Nestle India, Bajaj Finserv, and Hindalco Industries were notable gainers in the previous session, while weakness had been seen in Jio Financial Services, ICICI Bank, and Coal India. In the live session, Dr Reddy’s, Trent, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, InterGlobe Aviation, and Asian Paints were among the stronger names, while L&T and ONGC were weaker.

Technically, the Nifty’s close above 24,300 was important because it suggested that buyers were willing to step in at higher levels after a volatile start to the week. The index also moved well above its previous close of 24,032.8, showing a clear shift in momentum.

Overall, 6 May was a positive day for Indian equities, driven by strong sector participation and improved risk sentiment. The market looked healthier than the previous session, with financials, autos, and metals leading the recovery while defensive sectors lagged.
