Indian Stock Market Performance Today – April 13, 2026

Indian equities ended sharply higher on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, with both the Nifty 50 and Sensex closing above key psychological levels on improved global‑risk sentiment and positive domestic cues. The Nifty 50 settled at 24,231.30, up 389 points (1.63%) from the previous close of 23,842.65, while the Sensex closed at 78,111.24, gaining 1,264.30 points (1.64%).

Market tone and triggers

The rally was driven by renewed optimism around the US–Iran peace‑talk narrative, which reduced fears of a wider Middle East conflict and helped lower oil‑price worries and global‑risk premiums. At the same time, remarks by President Donald Trump suggesting that the war would end soon further eased geopolitical anxiety and lifted global equity markets, including India. Domestically, healthy retail participation and strong buying in large‑cap financials and technology names supported the upward move.

Sectoral performance

Most sectoral indices on the NSE closed in the green, led by gains in banking, financial services, and IT. Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services both closed higher, reflecting broad‑based buying in large‑cap PSU and private‑sector lenders. The Nifty IT index also gained around 1.6–2.8 percent, as global‑tech‑friendly sentiment and expectations of stable rupee–dollar volatility lifted valuations. Auto and select mid‑cap stocks also participated, suggesting that the rally was not limited to just a handful of index heavyweights.

Liquidity and trend

The sharp advance pushed Nifty decisively above the 24,000–24,200 zone, reinforcing the overall uptrend that has been in place since the post‑election rally late last year. Turnover remained healthy, indicating active participation from both domestic institutional investors and retail investors. While the near‑term trend remains bullish, traders will watch for any fresh macro or geopolitical cues, especially on oil prices and US‑Iran developments, in the coming sessions.
