Stock Markets News as on 29th April, 2026
Indian stock markets rallied strongly on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, with both the Sensex and Nifty closing well above their previous‑day levels, led by gains in banking, auto, FMCG, and select IT names. The broader market also held up, with smallcaps posting a fractional gain and midcaps mostly flat or slightly positive.
Benchmark indices today
The BSE Sensex ended 609 points higher, up about 0.79% to close at 77,496.36, reversing Tuesday’s sharp fall. The Nifty 50 gained around 0.76% to settle near 24,177–24,180, staying above the 24,000 psychological level and signalling that the base held after the recent correction.
Sector‑wise and stock‑wise moves
Driving the rally were auto, FMCG, and IT stocks, with names like Maruti Suzuki, Coal India, ITC, Tech Mahindra, and Reliance Industries featuring among the top gainers. On the downside, InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo), Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, NTPC, and Bajaj Finserv were among the key laggards, mostly pulled down by profit‑booking and sector‑specific news.
Market tone and triggers
The bounceback was supported by a positive global backdrop, stabilising crude prices, and decent domestic earnings cues, which helped restore investor sentiment after recent risk‑off flows. FIIs, however, stayed net sellers in the large‑cap segment, while retail and domestic institutions continued to back the rally, keeping the broader‑market structure intact.
